Daniel Chase Huchingson (born April 14, 1989) is a professional baseball pitcher currently playing in the New York Mets organization. He was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas.〔(Huchingson cherishes B-Mets postseason success )〕 Prior to playing professionally, he attended Fayetteville High School, where he was originally an outfielder but converted to pitching. He was drafted Texas Rangers out of high school in the 34th round of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft but didn't sign a contract.〔(Sand Gnats Nine: Q and A with Chase Huchingson )〕 He was then taken by the Houston Astros in the 23rd round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft, two picks ahead of major league pitcher Chris Rusin,〔(23rd round, 2008 draft )〕 though he opted not to sign a contract again. He was offered a scholarship to University of Arkansas, but turned it down to attend Arizona State University—though he did not attend the latter school as they decreased their scholarship offer to him.〔(MiLB.com )〕 He attended University of Arkansas - Fort Smith instead, before transferring to University of Central Arkansas. With Central Arkansas in 2010, he was 1-4 with a 8.36 ERA in 13 games (10 starts). He pitched for the McKinney Marshals of the Texas Collegiate League that year and went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in six starts, striking out 12 batters in 10 innings. In 2011, the hurler was 7-2 with a 1.82 ERA in 27 games (eight starts) for the Savannah Sand Gnats and in 84 innings, he had 91 strikeouts and only 61 hits allowed. He made the South Atlantic League All-Star team. With the St. Lucie Mets in 2012, he was 8-7 with a 4.10 ERA in 24 games (22 starts) and made the Florida State League All-Star squad. He led the team in wins, games started, innings pitched, strikeouts and batters faced. He pitched for the Surprise Saguaros of the Arizona Fall League that year and was named an AFL Rising Star.〔(Chase Huchingson to represent Mets in AFL Rising Stars Game )〕 Huchingson played for the Mets briefly during the 2013 spring training. He pitched for the Binghamton Mets that year and had a 1.61 ERA in 45 relief appearances, while averaging more than a strikeout per inning.
